Garage Doors are the most prominent element on a house these days. The designer puts them in the front of the house as a design feature.
But they really do that because land has gotten so expensive that a house has to fit on a 60 foot wide lot .
And with zoning requirements there has to be at least 10 feet between houses. The 10 foot requirement is so the fire department can gain access all the way around the building. That distance also creates a fire break like a fire wall.
I have been working on an idea to make the garage door flush with the front face of the wall. Thus removing the wall thickness recess that occurs in normal construction. You know where all the snow builds up in the winter in the northern states.
